Vintage compacts boxed Melissa compact atomizer / atomiser set 1950s
A beautiful 1950s Melissa set in the original presentation box. The compact and atomiser / atomizer are coated in a layer of transparent enamel which means they will never tarnish or need to be cleaned.

Both items are decorated with wild roses and subtle green, brown and white foliage. The items have satinized brass which gives them a luxurious appearance. There isn't any loss of design on both accessories and they are in very good condition. The compact opens to reveal an excellent mirror which gives a very good reflection. The mirror bezel is inscribed 'Melissa Made in England' in elegant script. The original velour edged sifter is in place and so too is the instruction leaflet. The base is decorated with a woven effect engine turned design. All clasps and hinges work perfectly.
The original black felt pouch is present and in A1 condition. This compact is suitable for use with loose and pressed / solid powder or as a handbag mirror.
The atomiser still has the original instruction leaflet which is interesting as it gives an address for the servicing department of A.R.D. (MELISSA) and there is scant information regarding this British brand. The atomiser is also signed 'MELISSA MADE IN ENGLAND' on the smooth gold tone lid top. The whole of the rest of the exterior is satinized. I tested the atomizer and it is not spraying out perfume, so it is just a vintage collectible as opposed to a working accessory. I will edit this listing if I manage to get it to spray again.
The original presentation box is also in very good condition. The exterior of the box is red with white borders - the base is white. It is well made and in good order. The interior lid is signed 'Melissa MADE IN ENGLAND' in gilt lettering - the gilt Melissa trademark crown above. The interior base lined with clean white nylon.
This vintage compact measures 3" & weighs 78.6 grams.
The atomizer measures just over 3 1/4" & weighs 37.8 grams.
