A silver compact mirror made in the 1940s.
These accessories were created as souvenirs for the Allied servicemen stationed in the Middle East.
Local silversmiths were supplying the need for love tokens that would be taken home by the Allied soldiers and airmen to give to wives and girlfriends.
They proved to be very popular.
This well crafted solid silver powder is decorated with a typical Arabian scene.
In the foreground palm trees and a dhow in full sail.
To the right traditional hand engraved buildings.
The interior contains an excellent mirror which gives a clear reflection.
The base is also decorated with an engraved scene.
This powder mirror compact is suitable for all types of loose face powder as it is fitted with a sifter (gauze).
There aren't any traces of powder on the sifter or compact.
Measures 3 inches diameter. Weighs 103.8 grams.
This compact tests as high grade silver but in the absence of hallmarks we are listing this in our vintage compact collection rather than our solid silver collection.
