A gorgeous 1950s Kigu " Cherie " (58-Series) romantic heart shaped powder compact in superb condition. The powder compact has luxurious engine turned lid (image one) & base (image three) with a lacquered finish so that it will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. It was traditional to give these compacts to girlfriends & wives as a love token. They are the classic heart shaped novelty compact seen in so many compact books. The unique shape of the Kigu 'Cherie' not only looks like a heart shape but also the name inscribed on the mirror bezel 'Cherie' means darling / beloved in French. The original sifter is present which means that this compact may still be used with loose face powder. The most exquisite vintage Kigu " Cherie " compact mirror complete with a velvet drawstring pouch & sifter.

The front has the most beautiful engine turned design having flowers at the top surrounded by gilt guilloche engraving which creates a clam-shell like effect. The base is just as eye-catching & echos this design. The lid opens to reveal an excellent mirror surrounded by a gold tone bezel. The inner lid is what you would expect from a compact maker with the "goldsmith's tradition" - ornate & beautiful. It is signed " KIGU " within the Kigu triangular trademark. The Kigu registered sliding catch ensures that nails will not get broken when opening the inner lid. All clasps and hinges work perfectly.

Measures: 3 1/8 " X 3" and weighs 84 grams.
