An unused stylish and well made mid-century powder compact. The all gilt lid is beautiful - it has an engine turned woven effect design with a blank oblong cartouche. 

All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The mirror is excellent & gives a clear and accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed 'Melissa MADE IN ENGLAND'. The powder well still has the original paper insert which reads as follows ''Melissa' CREME POWDER BOXES will take most Creme Powders. To fit, push refill into box. To remove, insert Nail File in the bottom recess on the right-hand side. "MELISSA" COMPACTS ARE IN USE ALL OVER THE WORLD. Printed in England'. The base is decorated with a matching woven effect design. This compact can accommodate all loose powder and powder pans measuring 67 mm like Max Factor 'Creme Puff', 'Miss Beauty' & CCUK Constance Carroll.
This vintage powder compact measures 3" & weighs 78.9 grams. It is suitable for use with loose & pressed / solid face powder or as a handbag mirror.
