Unused Kigu Lucite Bouquet / Basket Powder Compact 1950s
An unused and rare mid-century Lucite Kigu 'Bouquet' with 'engine turned pattern'. This fabulous Lucite novelty basket powder compact is from the 'Old 63-Series' made in the late 1950s. It was originally designed for loose face powder. The compact is in superb condition! It is decorated with the most elaborate engine turned design. Around the lid and base the 'gilt jeweller's finish' is decorated with the most gorgeous scalloped design. The compact has a functional handle that the makers describes as a 'graceful handle', which it certainly is. The lid has a Lucite dome which protects the most adorable reverse carved Lucite floral display on a silver tin foil background. The interior case contains an excellent mirror as well as the original signed puff and sifter. The interior case bears the triangular registered Kigu trademark. It is also signed 'Bouquet REG. DES.' All hinges and clasps work perfectly. The whole item is in super condition and it is a credit to the makers. This piece will never tarnish or need to be cleaned as it was coated with a layer of transparent enamel as one of the final stages in the manufacturing process. Measures 5.5 cm and weighs 57.2 grams.
