Both exteriors are adorned with a 24 karat gold Damascene landscape and so this would be an ideal golden wedding anniversary gift for her. The historical fact sheet we include with this purchase documents the elaborate process of creating a Damascene collectible using 24 karat gold and sterling silver. Damascene is considered a symbol of good fortune. The decorations are finely crafted 24 karat gold and sterling silver oriental scenes which depict the Ichinomiya, or supreme Shinto shrine of Suruga Province, Mount Fuji can be seen in the background. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The brass was coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of transparent enamel so these items will retain their beauty and never require cleaning. The inner lid of the compact is satinized. The bevelled mirror gives a good clear reflection. The base of the compact has a subtle & fine spiral design and could be engraved, if desired.
The lipstick holder is in superb condition and the mechanism works perfectly. We are delighted to find the lipstick with the original protective wrapping in place.
This compact is suitable for use with loose face powder or as a handbag mirror.
The original presentation case is also very pretty.. The exterior has a cover which is made to resemble snake skin. The interior lid is lined with the palest pink silk which matches the puff perfectly. The compact and lipstick holder sit in custom made recesses which are covered in red velvet. This Japanese maker knew that the sets would be so appealing that the owners would like to have them on display and so the case is hinged in such a way that the base can be raised to form a display stand.
The compact measures 7.3 cm and weighs 86.6 grams.
The lipstick holder measures 5.5 cm & weighs 30.3 grams.
