Something Old Gifts Vintage Kigu Oxford Loose Powder Compact 1950s
An exquisitely beautiful Kigu Oxford 56 Series in excellent condition. Certainly this model is hard to find. Such a luxurious mid-century accessory. The lid has a richly engraved design which gleams in the light. The whole compact has the Kigu 'gilt jeweller's finish'. This vanity was coated at the point of manufacture with transparent enamel which means it will retain its gorgeous appearance and not need to be cleaned. The lid and base have a complex guilloche design. The lid has a central cartouche surrounded by floral motifs and scroll work. This charming engraved ornamentation is continued around the outer edge of the lid. The interior has the familiar triangular Kigu registered trademark engraved on a raised oval cartouche. The inner lid has a honey comb guilloche engraved embellishment. The gilded mirror bezel is inscribed 'PATENTED MADE IN ENGLAND.' All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The inner lid is held shut by the Kigu sliding catch which was designed to protect nails from breaking when accessing the powder compartment.
This convertible powder compact is suitable for modern loose face powders or as a handbag mirror.
It measures almost 3" x 3" and weighs 125.2 grams.
