A very attractive sterling silver Siam niello powder compact made in the 1940s. On the lid a very powerful image of Mekkalah, Goddess of Lightning.

Mekkalah is minutely engraved. She is shown with lightning bolts coming from her hand. The images really do not do this nielloware collectible justice. The reflective nature of the lid makes it difficult to photograph. In person it is much more attractive & the engraving on the silver outstandingly beautiful. This compact mirror is in such good condition that it may not have been used. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives a good and accurate reflection. A charming compact in very good condition. The compact is engraved ' STERLING BANGKOK'. It is suitable for all loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. Includes sifter (gauze). Measures 2 1/2" and weighs 66.3 grams.
