A powder compact from Stratton's luxury range in excellent condition.
The lid is fabulous as the Stratton catalogue states that this compact case has a design of an item made by a craftsman - a superior model of compact.
It has the most beautiful enamel with NO loss of enamel or colour. The light is reflecting on the enamel in photograph one. The lid is a reproduction of the most famous Rococo painting called ‘The Swing’ also known as “The Happy Accidents of the Swing” and “Les Hasards Heureux de l'Escarpolett” by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. The gorgeous enamel decoration shows a lady on a swing playfully kicking her shoe off in the direction of her beau and yes you guessed it Stratton got the costumes right too. They are in typical Regency attire. The colours are vibrant & the images have great detail & clarity. The scene is beautifully rendered having the most delightful & authentic crackle glazing. Around this delightful scene is the most exquisite luxurious engined turned design featuring flowers, foliage & scrolls. The lid lifts easily to reveal an excellent mirror that gives a perfect reflection. The mirror bezel echos the shape of the Regency giving the mirror & interior case a very stylish appearance. The mirror bezel is signed "Stratton PAT. 562662. 596236. 607648. FOREIGN PATS PENDING MADE IN ENGLAND". The inner lid is decorated with the "Compact-in-Hand" logo. Which shows it is fitted with the patented self-opening inner lid. Tilt the mirror backwards slightly & the inner lid pops open - sixty years old & it still works perfectly! The original pretty pink felt edged sifter is in place & also black pouch to protect this adorable vintage compact. The base is decorated with the design Stratton reserved for their luxury range - the "curled feathers". It is very beautiful.
This wonderful compact measures 3 3/8" X 2 5/8" & weighs 108.6 grams.
