Number fourteen in our all time Top Twenty Stratton Powder Compacts.
A 1950s Stratton "Lipstick Royale". We are familiar with the Stratton "Royales" which were available from 1957 to 1965, as Juliette Edwards documents in her "Stratton Key" in which she notes that "Royales" were uncommon. This model with a lipstick attached is rare. This is a wonderful example with the enamel lid showing Nicholas Lancret's famous painting "The Music Lesson". The enamel is superb with only two very tiny areas of enamel loss which are very difficult to see. All clasps & hinges work well. On opening the compact the lipstick holder rises to allow access to your refill. The lipstick holder is signed "Stratton No 1". The mirror gives a good reflection. It has a couple of areas of silver loss. The mirror bezel is marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" & the inner lid is signed "Stratton". The original unused pristine sifter is in place. The base is decorated with the famous all over star pattern of Stratton.
This Stratton "Lipstick Royale" measures 7 cm X 7 cm & weighs 98.8 grams.
