Rare Stratton Contessa powder compact 1963 / 1964 something blue gift
This is such a beautiful powder compact. The Stratton 'Contessa' has only two known years of availability 1963 and 1964, so the model is rare. The lid decoration is also rarely seen. These two factors make this vintage accessory highly collectible. The compact has the most gorgeous enamel - a cobalt blue background adorned with Iris and daffodils shown in the finest detail. Vintage Stratton accessories are known for quality of the enamel decorations and no wonder - this is the most delightful Stratton compact and it has not been used. There isn't any enamel loss and this compact must have sat in a cupboard for the last fifty plus years. The mirror is very good & gives an excellent reflection. The mirror bezel is signed " STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND". Back in the day these accessories were very expensive and given on special occasions like a young lady's twenty first birthday. This is reflected in the high quality materials the makers used. The compact comes with the original presentation box, felt pouch, instruction leaflet and velour edged sifter, all of which are in excellent condition. This compact is fitted with the self-opening inner lid that the makers patented. Tilt the lid backwards slightly and the inner will opens automatically. This mechanism works perfectly. The compact was coated with a layer of lacquer at the point of manufacture which means it will not need to be cleaned. The inner lid is decorated with the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo. The base is decorated with the all over star design. The enamel and lacquered brass gleam. Measures 3" and weighs 93.1 grams.
