Rare Stratton Compact Mirror Ballotini Glass Beads / Enamel Lid 1950s
A wonderful find! The makers of the Stratton brand were noted for their ingenuity and also for the superb craftsmen / women in their employ. This mid-century loose powder compact is the most delightful example of a ballotini adorned vanity. It is so difficult to find vintage ballotini accessories. The technique used to decorate this very collectible powder compact is highly skilled and it involves the use of tiny glass beads to create the most enchanting design. Set atop the cream enamel are thousands of the most gorgeous tiny high quality glass beads which have been used to create this captivating and vibrant floral display. The lid lifts to show an excellent framed mirror. The mirror bezel is engraved 'PAT. 562662, 956236, 607648 FOREIGN PATS. PENDING MADE IN ENGLAND'. The inner lid has an engine turned design of horizontal lines and a square cartouche which contains the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo and the Stratton signature. This compact is fitted with the patented self-opening inner lid. Tilt the lid backwards and the inner lid pops open to show the original sifter and signed puff - both of which are in excellent condition. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The brass has the deep golden patina that you would expect from a 1950s piece. The base has a ribbed horizontal design. Measures 3" x 2 1/8" and weighs 95.2 grams.
