A very beautiful rare 1959 sterling silver Kigu musical powder box with the original presentation box, instruction leaflet, docket, unused puff & sifter together with a black draw string pouch. Just fabulous! Described by Kigu as follows 'The shimmer of silver in flawless satin finish presents the right background for the glittering bright design of flowers and butterfly. This musical compact is a treasure to be coveted by all lovers of beautiful things.' The solid silver lid is decorated with embossed flowers, foliage and a butterfly. The background is satinized which adds to the luxurious appearance of this highly collectible vanity. The whole of this rare musical powder box except the mirror & the musical movement is made from sterling silver. The lid, mirror bezel, thumb catch, base and powder well lid are all hallmarked. The mirror bezel is marked "PATENTED MADE IN ENGLAND". The bevelled mirror is very good & gives a perfect reflection. The base of the powder box is decorated with an attractive engine turned design. The powder well lid bears the Kigu triangular registered trademark within an oval cartouche. A Kigu sliding catch in place to keep the inner lid shut. Lift this lid to see a gilded powder well which is also hallmarked. The "baroque shape" base is fully hallmarked "KLD lion leopards head d" & signed "KIGU MADE IN ENGLAND".
The whole item is in excellent condition & has not been used as a powder box. All clasps & hinges work well & the music plays loud & clear. Superbly made & a rare opportunity to acquire one of the rarest Kigu vanities. Measures 31/4" X 2 3/4" & weighs 142.4 grams. More sterling silver vanities and powder boxes.
