An outstandingly beautiful sterling silver Milan assayed loose powder compact with a remarkable provenance. This vanity was part of a collection auctioned on behalf of Countess Maria Carmela Attolico di Adelfia, who was married to 4th Viscount Hambleden (a descendent of the founders of the stationery group, W H Smith).
Reserved for Alison.
The couple had five sons. In 1988 they divorced. Lady Hambleden continued to live in the Manor House in Hambleden until recently. A charming piece of outstanding quality. The maker is the esteemed Fratelli Cacchione, who was commissioned by Tiffany & Co. to craft exquisite creations for VIPs. A unique handmade mid-century beauty which does not appear to have been used. The lid and base have the most wonderful etched design adorned with bright-cut floral motifs which gleam as they catch the light. The original sifter is present and there isn't a trace of powder. This splendid creation bears the makers mark '39 MI' & 'FC' into an oval and also '925' for sterling silver. Push the thumb catch and the lid glides open to reveal a good mirror which gives an accurate reflection. Measures 8 cm x 8 cm and weighs 136.9 grams. Images one and seven show the lid. Images three and five are of the base. More solid silver makeup compacts. An immaculate pouch is included.
