This is one of the most sought-after Stratton ballet powder compacts.

As seen in Miller's- A Collectors Guide by Juliette Edwards page 35.

It is rare & shows the wonderful image of the Prima Ballerina Nadia Nerina who was one of the worlds most famous ballerinas. She was born on 21 October 1927 in South Africa. She moved to England and joined the Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet, where she became a prima ballerina at the age of 25. Fabulously talented she was one of the first western dancers to appear with the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow during the Cold War. She retired in 1969 and died in 2008 at her home, in France.

This very special powder compact shows the lead ballerina Nadia Nerina as the Black Swan in Swan Lake. The enamel lid is very beautiful and minutely observed. There isn't any enamel loss. The lid is signed "Baron" which was the professional name of Henry Nahum Sterling (1906 - 1956) the celebrated society & court photographer in the United Kingdom. Lift the lid to see a perfect beveled mirror with the original sticker in place detailing how to activate the self-opening inner lid which works perfectly every time the mirror is tilted back slightly. The inner lid is decorated with the "Compact-in-Hand" logo & attractive vertical lines. The original signed puff & sifter are in place & they are in good condition. This compact also comes with the original luxurious pouch & Stratton box too & they are in excellent condition. The base is decorated with the famous Stratton all over star design.

This collector's piece measures 3" & weighs 89.5 grams.
