Rare Kigu Vanity Set Vintage Dressing Table Set 1950
The vintage compact is suitable for loose face powder or as a handbag mirror and the mid-century cigarette case will hold cigarettes measuring 8.7 cm or less.
An unused vanity set in the original presentation box and the original satin and velvet lined case. All the original accessories come with this set and it is very rare to find a mid-century vanity / smoking set in this unused condition with all the instruction leaflets. The case is designed to double as a jewellery / jewelry box too.
This delightful and well preserved set comprises of:
One "Dolphin" "26 Series" loose powder compact - unused and gorgeous.
As the Kigu catalogue states "...modern in conception fits snugly into the palm of one's hand..."
The compact has a complex engine turned design on the lid and base. As you can see from image two it is very beautiful. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The inner lid is decorated with a honeycomb design and an oval cartouche adorned with the triangular Kigu registered trademark. The original puff and sifter are present and they are pristine. The puff bears the Kigu registered trademark in gilt. The mirror is excellent and gives a perfect reflection. This set is superbly made and shows the pride the British work force had in the middle of the twentieth century.
One "Dolphin" "96 Series" cigarette case which, of course, matches the design of the compact, comb holder and lipstick holder / mirror. The engine turned pattern consists of borders made up of tiny diamond shapes. The pattern bordered by this is one of vertical lines with tiny chevrons which echo the diamond shaped theme. The interior case is coated in a protective layer of golden enamel which does not show any signs of use. All clasps and hinges work perfectly.
One brass comb holder with the original comb. The comb is in tact - no missing teeth. The comb has the embossed signature "KIGU LONDON MADE IN ENGLAND".
One "Flippy" lipstick holder and mirror with the original felt pouch. The base of the lipstick holder is signed "KIGU MADE IN ENGLAND REG. DES." The original card lipstick shaped instruction leaflet is in place and so too is the instruction leaflet showing the new owner to activate the self-opening mechanism, which works perfectly every time. The small mirror of the lipstick holder magnifies your reflection quite well - just a little age related haze on it.
The faux leather clad wooden case is a high quality jewellery / jewelry case. The interior lid is lined with cream satin which bears the gilt Kigu crown and trademark. The base and comb holder are luxurious crimson velvet. The case too is in superb condition.
The original cardboard box is in very good sound condition. It has "KIGU Compacts of Character" printed all over it in gilt and white lettering.
The compact measures 7.5 cm long and weighs 95.5 grams.
The cigarette case measures 8.8 cm and weighs 59 grams.
The comb and comb holder measure 12.5 cm and weigh 36.3 grams.
The "Fippy" lipstick holder / sprung mirror measures 10.7 cm (fully extended) and weighs 25.6 grams.
