Rare Flower Basket Powder Compact Figural Compact Mirrors 1950s

We were searching for a hard to find novelty powder compact when we found this much rarer figural flower basket in excellent condition. The compact is enchanting! It stands upright by itself and the lid is adorned with enamel flowers. This flower basket compact is beautifully engraved and the basket is absolutely full of many different types of flowers. It brings to mind an English country garden and the freshly picked flowers that might be chosen to decorate the house. The flowers and foliage on the lid have been carefully painted with vibrant pink, blue and green enamel. The enamel has been applied in a charming manner, allowing the golden lacquered brass to peep through certain areas to emphasize the vivid colours. There is no loss of enamel or design. The basket is engraved to look woven. At the bottom the a daisy form pink flower with green foliage provides the finishing touch. The carry handle is engraved to look plaited. The base of the compact is engraved with the same pattern as the lid. This item was coated at the point of manufacture by the makers A S Brown (owners of the brand name Mascot) and so it will not tarnish or need to be cleaned. The whole compact gleams. The lid opens to reveal a mirror which gives a good reflection. The mirror has a few tiny and subtle age spots but nothing that detracts from the appeal of this adorably pretty vanity. The interior is gilded / lacquered. The powder well door is satinized and it is signed 'Mascot A S B'. Ping open the inner lid and you see the powder well which is copper and so this would make an excellent & unusual 7th (copper) wedding anniversary gift. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The original sifter is in place and so this could be used with loose face powder. 

This rare and beautiful 1950s novelty powder compact measures 3" tall & weighs 94 grams.
