Rare Bienamie Compact Mirror Art Deco powder Compact
We are so delighted to have this rare Bienaime powder compact in the collection. Robert Bienaime was a perfumer originally with Houbigant. It was he who created the exquisite perfume Quelques Fleurs. In 1935 he established his own perfume house, originally located at 396-rue saint-Honoré, Paris, which existed until 1950 & finding any compacts bearing his name is almost impossible. This is the only Bienamie compact we have found to date. Robert Bienaime was a hugely successful businessman who held these positions-
President of the National Union of French perfume from 1923
to 1926 and from 1931 to 1932, and from 1941 to 1942,
Chairman of the Special Committee organization for perfumery (1941)
President of the Society of Industrial Chemistry (1943-1957)
President of the Association of Friends of the School of Physics and Chemistry of the City of Paris
President of the Health Centre Foundation Infantile Paul Parquet
Vice President of the National Office of First Drugstore Perfumery Materials and Commerce Ministry
Vice-President of the Society of Friends of the Maison de la Chimie
Vice President of Chemistry Federation of Associations of France
Foreign Trade Advisor of France
President of Class 90 (perfumery) responsible for the organization of this class at the Brussels exhibition in 1922
President of Class 90 (perfumery), President of the Jury exhibitions in New York and Strasbourg in 1924
and he was also Deputy Mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine.
On 22nd May 1926, he was named Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur.
Such a delightful, exquisite & rare antique compact mirror! The lid is the most bold & mesmerizing design of scrolls, striking engravings & an octagonal cartouche in low relief. The lid lifts to reveal an excellent mirror & also the delicious aroma of Bienamie perfume that wafts towards you as the original powder plate is still present & what a treat this is! This tan coloured solid powder still almost full in the powder pan & covered by the original plastic film. The film has these words printed on it 'CREAMY POWDER A BASE DE SEVE BIOPHANE BIENAIME-PARIS. The base is gorgeous too - signed 'BIENAIME PARIS' around a cartouche with engine turned radians. The whole case has the most gorgeous deep golden patina. All clasps & hinges work well. The main hinge could be tighter but as this belongs on display & not in your handbag it is of no matter. Put simply this is probably your only chance to purchase this compact. The puff is in place too.
This seriously special compact measures slightly over 6.5 cm & weighs 84.8 grams.
