Rare Antique L T Piver Powder Boxes / Compacts 1920s

£0.00

We have run out of stock for this item.

An extremely rare opportunity to acquire not one, but three rare L. T. Piver compacts of historical importance. The compact on the right is extremely rare.  This compact can quite properly be said to be 'THE FIRST ART DECO COMPACT/POWDER TIN' as it was especially made for the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs and Industriels Modernes held in Paris. It was this exposition that coined the phrase Art Deco!

The powder tin is also a compact having a mirror set in the lid. The lid shows the profile of a lady's head in low relief, her hair slicked back in a neat bob as was the fashion in the 1920s. Surrounding her head are delightful powder puffs also in low relief. The backgound shows strong brush strokes which match the textured look of her hair. Surrounding this design are tiny circles in low relief which match the top of the powder puffs.
The lid lifts off easily to reveal an ancient mirror which will reflect your image.
The mirror does have some age related haze but no serious collector would think this was of any consequence in the context of this rare & important vanity. The lid
is signed 'L.T.PIVER.PARIS'. The base has these words enscribed 'SOUVENIR DE L'EXPOSITION DES ARTS DECORATIFS 1925 L.T.PIVER PARIS'

This very special powder tin/compact measures 1 1/2" & weighs 21.8 grams.

The second powder tin/ compact is from the previous year. Made in 1924 to celebrate L.T.Pivers 150 hundred years of making perfume from 1774 - 1924.
Again this was made as a highly collectible souvenir vanity offered by the luxury perfumerie L.T.Piver. The whole item just like the first having the most glorious deep golden patina. The lid is engraved with a garland of flowers tied by a ribbon. Foliage forms shapes echoing the ribbon into which '1774 - 1924' have been inscribed. Below this these words are inscribed 'OFFERT en Souvenir du Cent Cinquantenaire de la Parfumerie L.T.PIVER'. The powder tin lid lifts to reveal a very good mirror which reflects well. There is a slight haze. The base shows the 'Galuchat' (sharkskin) effect that L.T. Piver would use to establish another line in 1927.

The Cent Cinquantenaire compact measures 1 1/2" & weighs 15.7 grams.

The third vanity is the 1927 'Galuchat' (sharkskin) compact. This compact has a lid made to resemble sharkskin & it really does. The compact is signed 'GALUCHAT L.T.PIVER PARIS'. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror is excellent & shows a perfect reflection. The powder well & base show a typically beautiful Art Deco design created by joining chevrons.

The 'Galuchat' compact measures just over 2" & weighs 30.6 grams.
