A compact made for the Pygmalion brand in the 1950s. The lid has a traditional English rural scene showing huntsmen & their hounds at a public house. The lid has been protected well by the acetate cover & so there isn't any loss of the picture. The compact has a very good mirror - a couple of tiny age spots on the mirror but nothing that spoils its enjoyment. The original sifter & puff are present & so this compact may still be used with loose face powder. The puff has the curious detail of being signed 'Pygmalion 1815'. Most likely the scene was deemed as typically Georgian. The base has a finely etched spiral - essentially a smooth surface & so it is suitable for engraving if desired. The whole compact is in good condition with some signs of use.
This mid-century powder compact is suitable for modern loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. Measures just over 7 cm & weighs 67.6 grams.
