Art Deco cigarette cases Liberty & Co solid silver cigarette case 1930
A brief introduction to Liberty & Co - as if one were needed!
In 1875 Arthur Lasenby Liberty approached his future father in law & asked him if he may borrow £2000 from him. The request was granted & Arthur Liberty secured half of 218A Regent Street in London. He had a vision that this store should be different to what was already on offer in the Capital. He wanted not only to be a retailer but also someone who would change the face of both fashion & interior decor / design. What he had in mind was an Eastern Bazaar which would stock not only clothes & furnishings but also objet d'art. His vision tapped into a society which was already mesmerized by the beauty of the Orient. In less than one & half years he had repaid the loan & purchased the remainder of 218A. Soon more of Regent Street was acquired to create much needed space for oriental rugs, furnishing & gorgeous objet d'art. By 1884 Arthur Liberty was working with Edward William Godwin (founder of The Costume Society). They created clothes that would challenge even the fashions of Paris. Liberty & Co's emphasis on supplying high quality pieces secured Royal Warrants & this firm is particularly famous for their links forged with fashion designers & artists which include those of the Art Nouveau movement. This firm is widely believed to offer the finest quality pieces from all over the world. This superb case epitomizes Liberty & Co style & quality.
This is a superbly made accessory and also an objet d'art. This authentic Art Deco cigarette / business card case is fully hallmarked Liberty & Co. sterling silver. The case was assayed at Birmingham in 1930. The rounded shoulders slope away gently & the lid & base have a lightly hammered finish. This light hammering can also be seen on the gilded interior case. The gilding is original & without any fading - very beautiful. Around the lid engraved motifs. This case is so exquisite it would make a stylish accessory for either a man or a woman. An impressive gift or love token when only something special will do. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The case is in excellent condition - no dings & nothing that detracts from the name or the piece.

The case is understated & elegant & we are delighted to have this in our collection.
