This totally gorgeous mid-century Lucite Melissa powder compact makes an ideal first wedding anniversary gift. Traditionally the first wedding anniversary is celebrated by giving paper or plastic. A rare and magnificent mid-century Melissa Lucite powder compact in super condition. The enchanting lid is decorated with a the most exquisite clam-shell guilloche engraving. At the outer edge a clear band of lacquered brass forms such a contrast to the elaborately engraved floral motifs seen at regular intervals around the lid. A central scalloped panel is covered with a clear Lucite dome which protects the most adorable Lucite floral arrangement. Three pale pink flowers with crimson accents are neatly arranged in a golden vase. Below this, two pale yellow leaves and behind the pink flowers is delicate crimson foliage. All this is set atop glittering tin foil. In the 1950s British foil was made from tin and so this is a suitable tin (10th) wedding anniversary gift. The compact absolutely gleams and great care has been taken to produce a luxurious vanity which will delight the recipient. The brass has a rich deep golden patina which will not tarnish. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives a clear & accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is inscribed 'MADE IN ENGLAND'. The inner lid and base have beautiful guilloche engravings.
