A wonderful high quality unused Stratton compact and lipstick tube set.
This 1960s vanity set comes with the original features - outer box, the luxurious embroidered presentation case, silk and fabric puff, velour edged sifter, black felt pouches and instruction leaflets. The compact is suitable for loose and compressed face powder.
The cobalt blue enamel is decorated with elegant pale blue and white floral motifs with gilt accents. There isn't any enamel loss and both items are in very good condition. The mirror gives an excellent reflection. The mirror bezel is signed " STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND". Back in the day these sets were very expensive and given on special occasions like a young lady's twenty first birthday. This is reflected in the high quality materials the makers used and the great attention to detail. The base of the compact has the all over star design. The Stratton 'Slim Convertible' powder compact measures 3 1/4" and weighs 103 grams.
The lipstick holder is adorable - very beautiful and made with great care. Both items have high quality lustrous enamel. The original instruction leaflet in the shape of a red lipstick instructs the new owner to 'Insert into this base your complete Lipstick Refill. If it fits loosely, slightly push inwards the three LARGE 'U' SHAPED PRONGS to ensure firm grip'. The other side of the instruction leaflet reads as follows - 'The Stratton LIPSTICK HOLDER'. The end of the lipstick holder is signed 'Stratton No.2 MADE IN ENGLAND'. It measures almost 2 1/4" and weighs 9.7 grams.
The presentation case and its contents ensure this sets place within the luxury range of Stratton vanities. The hard case is clad with midnight blue fabric, embroidered with highly stylized turquoise harebells. Very eye-catching! The interior case is lined with golden satin which is signed 'Stratton'. The base has a lift out compartment with custom made recesses for the compact and lipstick tube. Once this is taken out the case becomes a jewellery / jewelry case.
The original outer box is also in super condition. We adore these little details..........the base of the box is stamped with the item code '5323/254'. After the stamped item code some handwriting '/3696 E/CMI'.
