Just fabulous! What a superb and rare Stratton powder compact. We have never seen this lid design before and the model of compact is also rare. This is a 1948 Statton 'Scone without Inner Lid'.
The exquisitely beautiful lid is hand painted silk, rendered to look like an oil painting. An extraordinary and remarkable gift for discerning collectors of vanities or a one of a kind gift to show how much you appreciate your wife on the day of your anniversary. The silk lid makes this an appropriate 12th (silk) wedding anniversary gift, when only something unique will do. This item is also suitable for the 21st (brass) anniversary too. This remarkable compact mirror is all the more appealing as it has never been used and it comes with the original accessories, all of which are pristine. The lid is like the day it was created. There isn't any loss of design or fading. The edge of the lid is lacquered brass with an engine turned design. The whole item was protected with a layer of lacquer at the point of manufacture which means it will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. As you can see from the images this amazing mid-century accessory depicts a typically English still life painting composition. The sumptuous colours of the floral display and the superb condition of this piece are sure to delight the lucky recipient. Lift the lid & you will see an excellent mirror which gives a clear and accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed "STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND". The original white velour edged sifter is in the powder well. The enchanting little fleece and leather topped puff is such a pleasure to find in place. The first and subsequent owners obviously knew how to keep and protect items of quality and the condition of this vanity is a credit to them. The powder well is gilded. The gilding is vibrant just like the day it was made. The base is decorated with a fine spiral.
This vintage powder compact measures 3" and weighs 69.4 grams.
Without doubt this is one of our all time favourite vintage Stratton powder compacts.
