An absolutely fabulous unused Stratton compact and lipstick tube set which was made in the 1960s.
Both the compact and lipstick are silver and gold plated. The exterior cases are decorated with diamond cut incised stylized gilt petal shapes. The set is gleaming clean and much more beautiful than the images show. Image two shows the finish on this set. The compact being large and flat picks up too many reflections to show the true beauty in these images. The exterior case of the lipstick holder and compact lid are decorated with satinized silver plate. Image one and four are dull over head shots and so you can not see the gorgeous satin finish. The luxurious embroidered presentation case, leaflets, both black pouches, silk topped puff and velour edged sifter are present. The presentation case is also a jewellery case. The compact is suitable for loose and compressed face powder.
The mirror gives an excellent reflection. Back in the day these sets were very expensive and given on special occasions like a young lady's coming of age. This is reflected in the high quality materials the makers used and the great attention to detail. The base of the compact has the all over star design and it is signed 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND'. This Stratton 'Slim Convertible' powder compact measures 3 1/4" and weighs 103 grams.
The lipstick holder is very pretty. The gold tone base is signed 'Stratton No.2 MADE IN ENGLAND'. The lift off tube is decorated with gilded incised petal shapes with a contrasting satinised silver plated tube. The original instruction leaflet in the shape of a lipstick instructs the new owner to 'Insert into this base your complete Lipstick Refill. If it fits loosely, slightly push inwards the three LARGE 'U' SHAPED PRONGS to ensure firm grip'. The other side of the instruction leaflet reads as follows - 'The Stratton LIPSTICK HOLDER'. It measures almost 2 1/4" and weighs 10.4 grams.
The hard case is clad with black fabric, embroidered with turquoise and pink abstract motifs. The interior case is lined with golden satin which is signed 'Stratton'. The base has a lift out compartment with custom made recesses for the compact and lipstick tube. Remove this compartment to transform the case into a jewellery / jewelry box.
Even the original presentation box is present. The item code 500/825 is stamped on the base.
