Solid Silver Compact Sterling Silver Kigu Compact Mirror 1953
A solid silver Kigu 'Oval 59 Series' compact mirror in excellent condition. This gorgeous fully hallmarked sterling silver handbag mirror was assayed in London in 1953. The lid and base have guilloche engraved designs which shimmer as they catch the lid. The interior case contains good mirror framed by a hallmarked silver bezel which is stamped 'PATENTED MADE IN ENGLAND'. The interior base contains an inner lid with the familiar Kigu honeycomb guilloche adornment which has an oval cartouche which is engraved with the Kigu triangular trademark and hallmarked lion passant (sterling silver). The case around the inner lid has linear radians. The compact is hallmarked 'KLD' (Kigu Ltd.), date year 'S' (1953), lion passant (sterling silver), leopard's head (London Assay). All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The compact comes with an immaculate black velvet drawstring pouch. There will be no need to polish this piece, as the makers applied a layer of transparent enamel during the manufacturing process. Measures 3" and weighs 84.8 grams.
