Isn't this enchanting? A rare Melissa powder compact made in the 1950s with a knight in shining armour / armor saluting with his right hand & sat astride a fabulous black steed. Certain aspects are picked out in gilt enamel - parts of the horse, like his, mane, hoofs & bridle, the knights feet, face visor & plume of feathers. Most delightful of all a little gilt dog runs besides his master! The background cream enamel is made to look like crackle glaze / eggshell. The lid opens to reveal an excellent mirror - the bezel signed 'MELISSA MADE IN ENGLAND'. The inner lid has a beautiful engine turned design typical of Melissa powder compacts & it is held in place by the 'tear drop' catch. The original sifter is in place & so this compact can still be used with modern loose face powder. The whole compact is in very good condition, as is the sifter. The base has a beautiful gilt guilloche design. This compact comes with a pristine Melissa felt pouch to protect it & a signed Melissa box to help you store it correctly.
This powder compact measures 7 cm & weighs 80.7 grams.
