Unmistakably Italian with the most superb acanthus leaves and floral motifs in the florid and extravagant style for which mid-century Italian silversmiths are famed. Acanthus leaves symbolise enduring life and immortality. The powder well is stamped with the 800 silver mark and the maker's mark which is not legible. The compact does not appear to have been used. The bevelled mirror gives a good and accurate reflection. In certain lighting conditions the mirror has a subtle haze. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The delightful baby blue felt pouch is present. Measures 6.7 cm x 6.5 cm and weighs 70.7 grams. The whole piece is in excellent condition.
