1950s Ballerina Mascot Muscial Powder Box Harry Lime Theme
This delightful ballet themed Mascot musical powder box is fitted with a Thorens Swiss movement that plays The Harry Lime Theme which was written and performed by Anton Karas for the soundtrack to the film The Third Man, which premiered in Great Britain in 1949. The lid is very beautiful and it is decorated with complex guilloche engraving. An oval cartouche frames a ballerina. This 1950s music box was made by the British firm A. S. Brown, who were the owners of the Mascot brand. The sides are decorated with a gilt granulated design. The whole piece has a deep rich golden patina. The base is decorated with guilloche engraving. The original mirror sticker, instruction leaflet and puff are in place. The mirror sticker reads as follows:- 'THORENS MOVEMENT HARRY LIME THEME Made in Switzerland'. Measures 3 1/2" and weighs 282.4 grams. A super sound little music box in excellent condition. It plays the tune well for over two minutes. The hinges and catch work perfectly. The mirror gives a good clear reflection.
