Large Unused Green Enamel Stratton Muffin OLD CHINA RANGE Powder Compact 1948 1952 1953
A fabulous unused Stratton Muffin Old China range powder compact which is ideal as an addition to any collection or for use with loose foundation or as a stylish handbag accessory. This compact model (with different lid adornments) has only three known years of availability - 1948, 1952 and 1953. Finding an enamelled Stratton Muffin which has never been used and which is presented with all the original accessories is a rare occasion indeed. Such a charming mid-century collectible!
The cardboard presentation box has the item code 594/132 neatly written on the base. Printed on the lid and base of the presentation box are the brand names owned by the makers - Lady Jayne, Studiette, Velva, Gilda, Expanda, Stratnoid and Stratton impressed in a subtle design on the pale blue pearlized paper.
This wonderful accessory is in super condition. The adorable little booklet giving details about the Old China range is accompanied by the original pristine sifter, puff, guarantee rosette, navy blue felt lined pouch.
The compact lid is adorned with beautiful vibrant enamel. This design was taken from a Worcester Plate in the British Museum which came from the Lady Mary Wortley Montague Service 1770-1780.
The base is also enamelled - a lovely white coat with a border of lacquered brass. The compact was lacquered during the manufacturing process and so it will not tarnish or need to be cleaned. The interior case contains an excellent clear mirror framed by a bezel signed STRATTON. The inner lid is also signed Stratton. The compact is fitted with an automatic opening inner lid which works perfectly, as do all hinges and catches. Measures 3 1/2 inches diameter and weighs 132.8 grams.
