1950s Kigu Locket Top Novelty Powder Compact Suitable For Loose Face Powder
The most gorgeous Kigu Minerva 53-Series Locket compact in excellent condition.
This model of compact is described on the Kigu archive as:
A lively imaginative design, incorporating locket holder for two photographs. Engraved.........design in jeweller's all gilt finish surrounds the nicely decorated photo holder.
As you can see this vintage powder compact is designed to hold both the recipient's photo and also that of her partner.
Just below this a section where this locket top fits snugly into the compact lid and here there is another photograph holder section in which to insert a photo of her beau.
The lid, inner lid and base are beautiful examples of guilloche engraving reflecting this maker's goldsmith's tradition.
All clasps and hinges work well.
The mirror is large and gives a clear accurate reflection.
There are a couple of small age related marks on the mirror, which in no way detract from the beauty of this powder compact.
The inner lid is decorated with attractive honeycomb guilloche engraving.
The central cartouche is signed KIGU within the triangular trademark.
The original sifter is in place as is an immaculate black felt pouch.
Measures 8 cm diameter. Weighs 100.1 grams.
