This gorgeous antique is ornamented with a shield cartouche which represents the desire to protect the recipient. Acanthus leaves adorn the front and back of the locket. Acanthus leaves have represented immortality, rebirth and longevity since ancient times. The locket is oval with a superbly rendered cruciform shape. Ivy leaves can be seen in fine detail on the back. Ivy symbolises everlasting love, deep friendship, fidelity and wedded bliss.
This antique gold portrait locket was assayed* (tested for gold purity*) at Glasgow Assay Office in 1910.
The locket and necklace catches and hinges work perfectly. The interior case can accommodate two photographs or portraits.
