A charming antique silver plated stamp box in excellent condition. The lid is engraved in the most exquisite and intricate detail. The engraving is remarkably good. At each edge Art Nouveau motifs with garlands of flowers. Within a circular central panel is a finely engraved romantic scene - a lady seated on a magnificent stone garden seat. She is dressed in luxurious garments. Her shawl is draped over her left arm and she has a fan in her hands. Her beau leans forward attentively listening to what she has to say. The circular banded border is signed by the well known engraver 'B. WICKER GR.' The bottom of the box bears the inscription 'DOUX PROPOS D'APRES F.SIMM'. The silver plating is in good order. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The interior is beautifully gilded - a deep rich gold. Two sloping compartments for the storing of stamps. The base, sides and back are smooth silver plated metal with no dings. This antique stamp box measures 6.1 cm X 3.5 cm & weighs 78.7 grams.
