This Asprey & Co. cigarette case is exceptionally well made, having sloped shoulders and a striking Greek Key border. The whole piece is in excellent condition.
The Meander or Greek Key symbolizes eternal life, eternal love and eternal friendship which is why antiques adorned with it are often given as marriage gifts.
An impressive gift. As well as being beautiful it is also functional having more than enough room for cigarettes, credit / business cards & money. The inner case is gilded and fitted with an elastic strap. Both the lid and base are fully hallmarked. The case is also signed " ASPREY LONDON ". This stylish Art Deco case was assayed at Chester in 1927. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. Measures 12.5 cm x 8.3 cm. Weighs 169.3 grams.
