A sterling silver makeup compact made in the 1940s. This compact is suitable for loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. The lid and octagonal lid surround are decorated with ornate engraved designs. A dancing girl in low relief features on the lid. Circular and octagonal smooth tone silver borders contrast with the scroll work. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The mirror gives an accurate and clear reflection. There are some tiny age spots on the mirror but nothing that detracts from this charming piece. The base is smooth silver which is ideal for engraving. The maker's mark is stamped on the base. The sifter is clean and free of powder. Measures 3 inches wide and weighs 63.3 grams.
