An exceptionally good fully hallmarked Victorian Aesthetic sterling silver locket with an elegant eighteen inch sterling silver necklace.
More exceptionally beautiful fully hallmarked antique lockets.
The front features a splendid and superbly modelled belt and buckle which symbolize the sentimental bonds of love. The interlocking belt and the buckle represent how perfectly matched the suitors are to one another. This wonderful symbolism continues, as the back is decorated with a finely engraved stork in a reed bed with a palm tree in the background. The symbolism of the stork is still today a lucky talisman for childbirth, as it was in the Victorian era.
This stunning piece was assayed at Birmingham in 1893. Such a bold statement piece which can be worn showing either side as a pendant or as a photo locket. The whole item is gleaming clean. The interior contains recesses which are ideal for photographs or a lock of hair. The hinge works perfectly. The locket opens and closes securely. The bale is also stamped with lion passant (sterling silver).
