Ornate Antique Edwardian Solid Gold Watch Fob Locket Necklace 1904
A rare and beautiful antique solid gold watch fob locket which was assayed for gold purity at the Birmingham Assay Office in 1904. This wonderful Edwardian locket is ornmented with such delightful and romantic motifs. The anterior surface is fitted with a hinged lid which opens to reveal two recesses which are suitable to hold two portraits or photographs. The original frame is in place. The hinged lid is embellished with a scroll cartouche framed by acanthus leaves, which also grace the both sides of the fob locket. Two engraved forget-me-not flowers and a single ivy leaf are shown in fine detail.
The scroll symbolises wisdom. Acanthus leaves convey the desire for everlasting life. Forget-me-nots flowers convey deep love and respect. Ivy has been used to portray strong bonds, fidelity and everlasting love since ancient times.
