Splendid Vintage Italian Silver Clam-Shell Compact Mirror Embellished With Ornate Bright-Cut Engravings Renzo Cassetti 1950s

A charming mid-century Italian silver compact mirror crafted in the shape of a clam-shell. This delightful accessory was created by Renzo Cassetti c.1950 and assayed at Firenze (Florence, Italy). Image five shows the maker's mark (210 FI).

This item comprises entirely of ornate fully hallmarked .800 silver. Bright-cut engravings adorn all the exterior surfaces. This style of engraving gives the compact a mesmerising beauty, as the hand engraved design reflects the light. Acanthus leaves and floral motifs are depicted on both sides. The acanthus leaf symbolises immortality / enduring life in many cultures. 

The interior and bevelled mirror echo the external clam-shell shape. The mirror gives an accurate  reflection. In certain lighting conditions the mirror appears to have age related haze. In different lighting conditions the mirror gives a clear reflection. The catch and hinge work properly. The compact is in good clean condition with no hint of powder residue. Measures 3 1/2 inches wide and weighs 62.4 grams. An immaculate pouch is included.
