A gorgeous antique Edwardian fully hallmarked 9 carat gold keepsake locket which is fitted with the original frames, purple backings and clear portrait protectors.

This elegant piece is shield shaped. Shields symbolise the desire of the donor to protect the wearer. Shields which feature in jewellery have been considered to be lucky talismans since ancient times. The front is embellished with acanthus leaves and a shield cartouche which is inscribed FM in an elegant font. The back is ornamented with ivy leaves. Acanthus leaves represent everlasting life. Deep friendship, fidelity and wedded bliss have been represented by the depiction of ivy leaves for hundreds of years. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The maker, Albert Ernest Jenkins, is well known for exquisite lockets. This locket was assayed at Birmingham in 1905. We have included an ornate necklace and so this portrait locket can be worn immediately.
