A wonderful and hard to find Stratton vanity set in the original case.
This cased compact and lipstick holder set epitomises the enviable world class manufacturing reputation that Britain had in the middle of the twentieth century. It is absolutely stunning! The set is adorned with a design that is seldom seen - the most adorable smooth tone gold daisy form flower on a contrasting finely engraved linear engine turned design. This vanity set is a high quality luxury item. The powder compact and the lipstick holder are made from highly polished gilding metal (brass) which was coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of transparent enamel. This process guarantees that these accessories will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. This type of engine turned design has resulted in such a superbly rendered finish that it guarantees fingerprints will not show.
The Stratton 'Princess' powder compact is suitable for loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. All clasps, hinges and the self-opening inner lid work perfectly. The compact opens to reveal a bevelled mirror which gives a perfect reflection. The original mirror sticker is in place. The inner lid has an engraved design of vertical lines, the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo and the Stratton signature. The original features are in place - the luxurious semi-rigid pouch, puff, sifter. The base is decorated with smooth tone gold stars. The matching lipstick holder is also super. The pouch is made from thick good quality black felt.
The original hard presentation case is just as delightful as the vanities it holds. The outer case is beige with subtle patterns. The interior of the lid is lined with golden silk. The base is lined with deep crimson velvet. Custom made recesses hold the compact mirror and lipstick holder neatly in place. On either side of the velvet interior are crimson satin tabs to enable the easy removal of the display section which holds the contents tilted to form a display case. Once removed the case becomes a jewellery / jewelry case. There is even a section to hold rings.
The compact mirror measures 3" & weighs 85.8 grams. The lipstick holder measures just over 2" & weighs 10.1 grams.
