The remarkable lid decoration is a minutely detailed & accurate reproduction of the famous painting by Nicolas Lancret 'The Bird Cage'. The lid design resembles a grisaille painting (a method of painting in grey monochrome, typically to imitate sculpture. This high quality vanity is sure to delight. Around the immaculate lid image is a double circular smooth tone border. The indented edges are decorated with scroll work. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The bevelled mirror gives a clear & accurate reflection.
The original mirror sticker is in place. It gives details of how to activate the self-opening inner lid - 'To open inner door: press mirror-lid back, door springs open. To shut: bring mirror lid forward and press door down. A STRATTON Patent.' The whole compact is silver plated. The inner lid is decorated with vertical lines and the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo. The powder well contains the original protective insert, velour edged sifter and pink puff with the Stratton signature in gold lettering. The base is decorated with smooth tone stars on an engine turned design of tiny diamond shapes. The black felt pouch will protect the compact. This compact was lacquered at the time of its manufacture. This protective layer prevents any tarnish from forming. This sought-after collectible will retain its beauty and never need to be cleaned. Measures 7.3 cm and weighs 94.8 grams.
