An elegant and dainty circular antique fully hallmarked solid gold locket with an ornate 18 inch necklace.

This delightful antique 9 carat yellow gold locket is embellished with ornate engravings on both sides. This piece is steeped in symbolism. The shield cartouche represents the desire of the donor to protect the recipient. The shield is frames by acanthus leaves and ivy, a pattern which is repeated on the back. Acanthus leaves symbolise everlasting life. Ivy has been used to depict fidelity, friendship and or wedded bliss for hundreds of years. Hallmarks can be seen on the bale and back of the locket. It is hard to read the place of assay and date year. However, the gold purity marks 375 and 9 are clear and easy to read. The locket is in super condition. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The interior contains two recesses for portraits or photographs. One of the original frames is also present.
