Cleopatra Vanity Box Rarest Powder Compacts In The World

An incredibly rare Cleopatra Vanity Box made in 1910. This can be said to be the first vanity box made, as it was originally marketed as being a powder container, a cream holder and also a place in which to store pins. As you can see the image of Cleopatra is deliciously Art Nouveau and still beautiful even at this great age. The whole vanity box has an engine turned design making it easier to grip. The piece is decorated with a pure gilt finish which hardly shows the passage of time. The lid lifts off to reveal a rotating perforated compartment in which to store face powder. The base consists of a removable mirror which is in remarkably good condition, a plate that sits on top of the mirror with embossed lettering " CLEOPATRA VANITY BOX CO. PAT. JULY 5TH 1910 NEW YORK. N.Y. U.S.A. ". The vanity box is an unusual design as the mirror is fitted in the base so that it can be used when the vanity box is shut. The mirror and gilt embossed plate sit within a gilt frame. Measures 5.1 cm wide and weighs 10 grams.
As you would imagine such a coveted vanity will come with a large and lavishly illustrated fact pack.
