A brief introduction to the luxury jeweller / jeweler Garrard & Co. Ltd: Garrard & Co. Limited formerly Asprey & Garrard Limited designs and manufactures luxury jewellery and silver. This long established high end business was founded by George Wickes in 1735. Garrard is headquartered at Albemarle Street in Mayfair, London. Garrard was the Crown Jeweller of the UK, charged with the upkeep of the British Crown Jewels from 1843 to 2007.
A superb boxed fully hallmarked sterling silver cigarette case made by the luxury English jeweller / jeweler Garrard & Co., assayed at Birmingham in 1961. This high quality case has the most beautiful engine turned lid & base. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The whole piece is in superb condition & it is large enough for credit & business cards too. The lid and base do not have any inscriptions, initials / monogram. It is such a bonus to find this exquisite piece in the original box. On the lid of the cardboard box these words printed in gilt lettering - GARRARD & CO LTD. CROWN JEWELLERS formerly The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd. 112 REGENT STREET, LONDON, W.1.
Images two and three show the lid. Images one and four are of the base. As well as being fully hallmarked this case is signed 'GARRARD & CO LTD 112 REGENT STREET W.1' .The inner case is gold plated. The hallmarks are clear and easy to read. A nice bit of provenance inscribed on the inner case - 'A.J.B. 1956 - 1958 FROM HIS FRIENDS IN THE LORD CHAMBERLAIN'S OFFICE. Measures 11.5 cm X 8.8 cm & weighs 157.5 grams.
