This powder compact is suitable for use with loose and pressed / solid face powder or as a handbag mirror.
This is probably the best one of these sets you will see. It is very hard to find this model in an unused set. This model of compact was only known to be available between 1962 - 1968. Vintage Stratton powder compacts are known for the quality of the decorations and no wonder - this is the most gorgeous Stratton set and it has never been used. Both the powder compact and lipstick holder have high quality decorations - beautiful deep crimson roses with dark green foliage. The surface of the lipstick holder and the lid of the compact also have a satinized finish which is very appealing. Each item was coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of transparent enamel which means that they will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. There isn't any loss of design. This set must have sat in a cupboard for the last fifty plus years. The mirror is very good & gives an excellent reflection. The mirror bezel is signed " STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND". Back in the day these sets were very expensive and given on special occasions like a young lady's twenty first birthday. This is reflected in the high quality materials the makers used. This item comes with all the original accessories, including the outer box which protects the presentation box. The compact is fitted with a luxurious silk and fabric puff signed 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND', a velour edged sifter, instruction leaflet and black felt pouch - all pristine and unused. The base of the compact has the all over star design.
This very beautiful 1960s Stratton '10-Sided Convertible' powder compact measures 3 1/4" and weighs 90.6 grams.
The lipstick holder is just delightful - very beautiful and made with great attention to detail. The decorations on both items are a joy to behold. The original Stratton label in the shape of a red lipstick instructs the new owner to 'Insert into this base your complete Lipstick Refill.....' The other side of the card reads as follows - 'The Stratton LIPSTICK HOLDER'. The end of the lipstick holder is signed 'Stratton No.2 MADE IN ENGLAND'.
The matching lipstick holder comes with the original pristine felt protective pouch. It measures almost 2 1/4" and weighs 9.6 grams.
The original presentation case is in excellent condition. The interior lid is signed 'Stratton' and the interior base is lined with pristine white satin which covers the custom made recesses which house the compact and lipstick holder. The original sticker bearing the name of the retailer that sold this set is still in place. It reads '25 Orchard Street, PRESTON E SCANLON'. This retailer is highly likely to have been a jeweller.
