A beautiful 1950s Sonata musical powder box which plays the enchanting Schubert's Serenade. Such a gorgeous little music box! The enamel lid is superb - a background of silver enamel with golden stylized foliage and fruit.........white and black enamel borders with embossed gilt motifs and the middle two elegant ladies wearing red gowns. The ladies are golden enamel, their hair and flowing robes have gilt accents. We have not seen this lid design before. The enamel is protected by a coat of lacquer which was applied at the point of manufacture. There is no loss of design or enamel loss. The lid opens to reveal an excellent bevelled mirror which gives a perfect accurate reflection. The interior and exterior brass all lacquered and so this will never need to be cleaned. The interior case which houses the musical movement and powder well are decorated with a granulated gilt effect. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The base of the powder well is signed " Sonata ". The original puff is signed " Sonata ". The original sifter is present too. Neither the puff or sifter have ever been used. They are pristine. Turn the winding key two full turns to hear Schubert's Serenade play. The music plays well. The music box comes with the original grey felt pouch edged with white cotton, this too is pristine & it is signed " Sonata " in gilt lettering. The original presentation box is sturdy and has protected this music box well. The lid of the box is signed " Sonata ". Measures just over 2 " x 2" and weighs 108 grams. The base of the presentation box has these words printed on it "Schubert's Serenade No 32 ".
