A remarkable find! Just like going back to the 1950s and purchasing this powder compact from the makers. A marvellous mid-century Stratton Convertible powder compact with all the original accessories which has never been used. The whole item is outstandingly good and a joy to behold. The lid has a background of lustrous cobalt blue enamel which is adorned with the enchanting Pas de quatre. Just superb! There isn't any loss of design or enamel - gorgeous new old stock condition. The lid opens like it has rarely been opened and inside you will find the original accessories:- luxury Stratton fabric and silk signed puff, velour edged sifter, padded paper insert, paper instruction leaflets. The black felt pouch and presentation box are also in pristine condition. The mirror is excellent and it gives a good accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed 'STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND'. The powder well wall is inscribed '764125'. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The base is decorated with the all over star pattern. The compact was coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of lacquer which means it will never tarnish nor need to be cleaned.

Traditionally the 21st anniversary is celebrated by gifting items made from brass and so this would make a very special gift.

The lid is signed 'Baron'.  The scene is from a photograph taken by the society photographer Sterling Henry Nahum who used Baron as his professional name. In his thirties he noted that his ballet / ballerina photographs were most appreciated & so he was often at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. After WWII he mainly focused on society & celebrity portraits. Prince Phillip was a friend & Baron was appointed the Court Photographer to the British Royal Family. He took the official wedding photos of Princess Elizabeth & Prince Phillip. He did not take the official photographs for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953 as the Queen Mother preferred Cecil Beaton. In 1954 he set up a the Baron Studios on Park Lane in Mayfair. He died two years later. The studio carried on until it was sold off in 1974. All the portraits were donated to The National Portrait Gallery in 1999.

This vintage powder compact measures 3" and weighs 92.6 grams.
