Rare antique solid silver FRANK HYAMS novelty compact orange powder compact 1912

£0.00

We have run out of stock for this item.

It is highly likely that this sterling silver orange novelty powder compact is unique. Just adorable! The lid has a 'sprinkler' which is operated by turning the leaves to either stop or allow powder to pass through the tiny perforations on the top half of the lid. Also there is a hanging ring so that it could be fixed to a chatelain. The whole novelty is vermeil and does not look like it has been used with face powder. The little orange has as pitted exterior just as you see on a real orange. The exterior gilding is subtle but the interior is a deep rich gold. The lid is unscrewed in an anti - clockwise direction.

All the compartments, hinges / clasps function perfectly. This is a remarkable piece! The third image  shows the base with  both compartments open & the tiny unused puff. I do not think this was ever used as the gilding is superb & there aren’t any signs of wear to the hallmarks. This solid silver novelty orange compact is hallmarked in multiple places.
